Shawano Farmers Market

The F.R.E.S.H. Project – Shawano Farmers Market Returns

The Shawano Farmers Market, hosted by The F.R.E.S.H. Project, will open its 17th consecutive season on Saturday, June 21, and continue every Saturday through Oct. 11. The market will remain open until 1 PM on July 12 for Shawano Fest and again on October 4 for Shawano Oktoberfest.

The market will be located at Franklin Park on the 200 block of South Washington Street, Shawano. The market will have a variety of vendors for shoppers to purchase healthy, locally grown vegetables, fruit,
meats, baked goods, and crafts from local artisans.

“Customers tell us they enjoy having a farmers market in their community and look forward to it every summer. They appreciate the variety of vendors at the market and having access to fresh food from local farmers,” said Executive Director Dave Mendoza. “Our farmers bring the locally grown in-season produce to the market.”

The market will also host a variety of artisans, crafters, and bakers selling their handcrafted goods and freshly baked treats.

The F.R.E.S.H. Project will be providing $5 tokens that can be used to purchase food items from select vendors at the market. To receive the $5 tokens, qualified shoppers simply need to show their Food Share (EBT) or WIC (Women, Infants and Children) cards at the information tent. The $5 token program was created to help provide additional food for those in need. Sponsors for the $5 token program include Theda Care and Shawano Area Community Foundation.
Non-profit organizations will also return to the market this summer. Come learn about the wonderful work these folks are doing in the community and support their organizations by purchasing some of the goodies they bring with them.

There are still a few slots available for non-profit organizations to come and highlight their causes at the market.

Musical entertainment this year will include a few live performances from some crowd favorites. Shoppers will be able to sit and relax under the canopy. This is also a chance for the musicians to talk to the listeners about the importance of music and other venues where they perform. Musical guests volunteer their time and play for donations.

Mendoza stated that there is still room for more vendors to join this growing Farmers Market. In addition, any musicians who would like to come out and play some tunes for shoppers to listen to are always welcomed. To apply, just fill out the appropriate application form.

The F.R.E.S.H. Project – Shawano Farmers Market is free to attend, and free parking is available on nearby streets, at the Shawano Civic Center lot, and city parking lots.

F.R.E.S.H. stands for Food, Resources, Education, Sustainability and Health. The organization works to bridge food resources to secure local needs through partnerships with rural farmers and community organizations. To learn more, visit the F.R.E.S.H.
